Background: During their reproductive years,75% of women suffer from premenstrual syndrome, a reoccurring illness. It is marked by a variety of emotional and physical manifestations that start prior to menstruation and typically go away as soon as it starts. Even while symptoms vary in intensity, PMS can have a detrimental impact on social, professional, and academic functioning. Its pervasiveness emphasises the need for more research and improved management techniques. Objective: Find the prevalence of premenstrual syndrome among nursing students in Chamarajanagar and the association between this prevalence and the personal characteristics of the students.
Methodology: The study used a descriptive research method and employed convenience sampling to recruit 120 nursing students from designated nursing institutes in Chamarajanagar. Premenstrual syndrome prevalence among nursing students was evaluated using a standardized PMS scale. The data collecting and analysis process used both descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results and Discussion: The result of the study revealed that out of 120 participants 75(62.5%) participants were having mild premenstrual syndrome, 27(22.5%) had moderate premenstrual syndrome, 10(8.33%) had severe premenstrual syndrome, and 8(6.66%) were not having any symptom of premenstrual syndrome. The study proves an essential association between nursing students' chosen personal factors and the occurrence of premenstrual syndrome like age, education level, menarche age, and length of the cycle.
Conclusion: Most nursing students reported mild premenstrual syndrome, according to the study's findings. Raise knowledge of premenstrual syndrome among nursing students, a structured educational program should be set up.
