Abstract

The infant should be able to breathe on their own within the first minute after birth, which is known as the "golden minute." If not, birth asphyxia will result. Since the majority of asphyxia instances are unpredictable, every infant should be regarded as having a high probability of experiencing asphyxia during delivery. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the present level of newborn resuscitation knowledge among nurses employed at Tertiary Care Hospital in Savar, Dhaka. Two hundred one nurses took part in a cross-sectional study using the simple random sampling technique. They answered structured questionnaires that they self-administered and included sociodemographic information. The study also evaluated the nurses' knowledge of newborn resuscitation and determined the relationship between the sociodemographic variables and the nurses' knowledge of newborn resuscitation. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, such as frequency percentages, and inferential statistics. To determine if knowledge levels and a chosen sociodemographic characteristic were related, the T-test and a one-way ANOVA test were employed. The results of this study showed a correlation between nurses' knowledge of neonatal resuscitation and sociodemographic factors. There are no appreciable knowledge gaps based on age, religion, marital status, monthly income, professional background, or length of employment. Sex (t=80.485, p=<.001), working unit (F=2.394, p=.002), and neonatal resuscitation training (t=80.485, p=<.001) are significant factors impacting knowledge of infant resuscitation. In summary: The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the tertiary care hospital nurses' understanding of newborn resuscitation. The results of the survey show that although the majority of nurses have acceptable to strong knowledge, further training and educational programs might help those in the moderate range, in particular.
