Study of Traffic Volume and Appropriate Ways to Cross the Highway at “Technical Junction, Jabalpur”

A field traffic volume survey is necessary to assess present traffic levels and predict future
changes. These studies analyze changes in traffic volume, measure the impact of heavy vehicles
and pedestrians on flow, and identify the quantity, kinds, and movements of highway vehicles at
particular locations. They offer information on the ratios of vehicles, changes in flow at
intersections, and the effectiveness of traffic management strategies. Channelization, road
capacity estimation, signal timing, pavement design, and geometric design are all aided by this
knowledge.
As part of our thesis, we are doing a manual traffic volume survey at the Technical Junction
utilizing counting methods. Passenger Car Units (PCUs) make estimates for mixed traffic in
Jabalpur easier to grasp and aid in intersection control. The study's findings will guide traffic
control and recommend actions to improve safety, such as extending public transport or widening
roads.
The optimal solutions for high-risk highway crossings, which are prone to accidents, are another
goal of our thesis. It is essential to manage traffic efficiently based on volume and behavior. The
thesis examines various interchange designs and appropriate junction planning. Google Maps
images were utilized to project different intersections and make location maps.
