Abstract

The analysis and design consequences of floating columns in multistory buildings are the main subject of this paper, which explores the field of structural engineering. Frequently used to satisfy functional and architectural requirements, floating columns complicate load distribution and seismic performance.

The study’s scope includes comparing the seismic performance of multistory structures with and without floating columns. The study attempts to determine the effect of floating columns on the stability and integrity of buildings by assessing the structural behavior under seismic loads.

Methodology: A thorough 3D model of the building is created using advanced structural analysis software. By simulating seismic forces through equivalent static analysis, a thorough comparison of the two structural designs is made possible. To comprehend the impact of floating columns, important aspects including load pathways, stress distribution, and displacement are carefully investigated.
