Review on Technology Advancements in Biometric Authentication

Abstract

This paper offers insight into recent progression in Biometric authentication systems, encompassing areas such as fingerprint protection, finger vein biometrics, biometric authentication in Educational environments, fog computing security, and the IoT landscape. It delves into finger vein biometric authentication systems and biometric identity verification for students, comparing different biometric systems based on accuracy, error rate, and processing time. The sense of security is enhanced with biometric authentication, a verification process. Technological advancement has resulted in scanners that go beyond fingerprint ridges to scan for vascular patterns; Authentication adds a layer to the identity confirmation process. Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) progressively integrates with IoT, ML and AI. Nowadays, authentication methods include where a user tries to gain access and will have their IP address and geo location looked into. Additionally, the paper explores methods of fingerprint protection using digital watermarks and cryptographic techniques. By synthesizing insights from these areas, this survey contributes to understanding cutting edge biometric authentication technologies and their applications, benefiting researchers and practitioners in biometrics and security.
