Color psychology in interior design explores how color influences emotions, perceptions, and behaviors in various spaces, playing a critical role in creating environments that support specific functions, aesthetics, and moods. Interior designers use color as a powerful tool to evoke desired responses, drawing on psychological principles to design spaces that enhance well-being, productivity, and comfort. This study examines how color choices in interior design affect user experience, exploring theories that link color with emotional and cognitive responses. Warm colors like red, orange, and yellow are often associated with energy, warmth, and stimulation that could work for social spaces like living rooms, dining areas, and restaurants. Conversely, cool colors such as blue, green, and purple are linked to calmness, tranquillity, and focus, ideal for spaces intended for relaxation or concentration, such as bedrooms, bathrooms, and offices. Neutrals, including shades of white, gray, and beige, provide balance and versatility, often acting as backgrounds to highlight other design elements or serve as minimalist, calming palettes. The cultural, psychological, and personal aspects of color perception add complexity to color selection in interior spaces. For example, while red may symbolize passion and vitality in some cultures, it can represent danger or warning in others. Designers must consider these cultural nuances to create universally appealing and psychologically appropriate spaces. Individual preferences, personal experiences, and lighting conditions also significantly influence how color is perceived, making it essential to approach color selection with flexibility and adaptability. This paper emphasizes the impact of color on user comfort and experience, noting how thoughtful color application can enhance functionality and aesthetics in interior spaces. As interior design increasingly incorporates principles from environmental psychology, understanding the psychological effects of color enables designers to create spaces that are not only visually appealing but also supportive of occupants' mental and emotional well-being.
Methodology: This research aims to deepen the understanding of color psychology’s applications in interior design, contributing insights for more effective and responsive design practices that meet diverse human needs in residential, commercial, and public spaces.
