Abstract

This study evaluates the vulnerability and impact of solid waste generation in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Rapid urbanization and population growth have led to an increase in municipal solid waste, straining the existing waste management infrastructure. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, incorporating field surveys, stakeholder interviews, and Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping to assess the spatial distribution of waste generation and identify vulnerable areas. The environmental and socio-economic impacts are analyzed, focusing on air, water, and soil pollution, as well as public health implications. Results indicate significant disparities in waste management services across different regions of Lucknow, with marginalized communities facing heightened exposure to environmental hazards. The study highlights key gaps in waste management policies and proposes actionable recommendations to enhance the city’s resilience to waste-related challenges. By providing a comprehensive understanding of waste management dynamics, this research contributes to formulating sustainable and inclusive waste management strategies.
