Abstract

Blockchain technology is revolutionizing the agricultural sector by enhancing transparency, operational efficiency, and food traceability. This study explores the innovative applications of blockchain in agriculture, including optimizing supply chains, tracking the provenance of crops, and providing decentralized financial solutions to empower farmers. Despite its potential, the widespread adoption of blockchain faces significant challenges such as scalability, regulatory concerns, and the digital divide between urban and rural areas. Furthermore, blockchain has the potential to foster sustainable agricultural practices, improve resource distribution, and ensure fair trade. The integration of blockchain can also contribute to reducing food waste, ensuring better quality control, and increasing food security. This study also investigates ongoing barriers hindering blockchain’s large-scale implementation in agriculture. It suggests that overcoming these challenges is essential for fully unlocking the benefits blockchain promises for the agricultural industry. The study concludes by proposing future avenues of research to support the adoption and scalability of blockchain technology within the global agricultural ecosystem.
