Abstract

This study explores distinct designs and innovations in coconut dehusking machines, emphasizing efficiency, safety, and affordability. Though traditional manual methods are effective, they involve more labor and pose safety risks. The transition to mechanized systems aims to boost productivity and reduce the need for skilled labor. Various machines, including pneumatic, pedal-operated, and motorized designs, are evaluated for successful implementation where coconut farming is prevalent. Key features across these machines include spiked rollers, motors, and ergonomic designs that enhance user safety. Challenges such as high initial costs, maintenance issues, and adaptability to different coconut varieties remain significant. However, ongoing research indicates promising advancements that could make these machines more accessible to small-scale farmers. Notably, these machines exhibit impressive dehusking efficiencies, processing between 80 and 200 coconuts per hour. Future advancements should focus on reducing costs, increasing adaptability for different coconut types, and improving safety. Automation and scaling for more extensive operations will enhance efficiency, while advanced materials will lower maintenance.
