Abstract

This research work is an investigation into the viability of employing mobile microphones in monitoring urban noise pollution. The continuous expansion of cities and urban growth with no apparent end in sight is complemented by an equivalent increase in the levels of environmental noise, thereby raising serious environmental, social, and health issues. Traditional noise monitoring systems tend to be fixed, expensive, and have limited coverage in space, and they are very resource-and skill-intensive. By contrast, mobile-based applications offer a cheaper, scalable, and easily accessible option that can facilitate greater public participation and real-time monitoring of the environment.

In general, this research verifies that mobile phone noise monitoring is a feasible, efficient, and community-based solution for identifying and resolving noise pollution. It encourages sustainable environmental practice, citizen engagement, and smart city planning through low-cost and easily available cell phone technology.
