This is a conceptual paper for a future study on supply chain management practices and farm performance in the Sri Lankan agricultural sector. The agricultural sector is vital to Sri Lanka's economy, employing a substantial segment of the people and contributing to food security and rural development. Farmers, who form a significant proportion of the agricultural sector, face numerous challenges in achieving successful farming for many reasons. The efficient management of the agri-food supply chain has emerged as a promising approach to smooth the flow of the supply chain and improve the overall performance. Even the supply chain management practices affect the supply chain performance; the effect on different actors, basically the foundation actors, farmers, needs to be considered separately. If the farmers are not well established, the entire agri-food supply chain is at risk. By exploring this effect, the study aims to understand the significance of adopting supply chain management practices on the farm performance of the agricultural sector in Sri Lanka. This research contributes valuable insights to policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders in the Sri Lankan agricultural sector. Ultimately, the findings from this future study can guide the development and implementation of targeted interventions to strengthen the agri-food supply chain, promote supply chain practices at the farmer’s level, and enhance the livelihoods of farmers in Sri Lanka.
