Abstract

Water-based emulsion paints are complex formulations comprising various functional additives to ensure performance and stability. This study investigates the role of pH regulators, which are essential for maintaining formulation stability, dispersion, and performance. Four types of pH regulators were examined through ten trial formulations. Performance evaluations included gloss, scrub resistance, UV exposure, and colour retention tests. Among the samples, Trial 1 using two-amino-two-methyl-one-propanol in a dual-stage addition showed superior properties. This paper comprehensively analyses the pH regulator's impact on coating properties, contributing to improved formulations for decorative and protective coatings.
