Abstract

The persistence of delayed emergency response times following road accidents remains a significant contributor to the escalating fatality rates witnessed globally, including within Saudi Arabia. Recognizing this critical issue, our project endeavours to introduce an Internet of Things (IoT) solution to mitigate the impact of such delays and consequently reduce the incidence of fatalities. At the heart of our initiative lies developing a novel seat belt integrated with a sophisticated sensor system that detects the driver's heartbeat rate. Upon detecting a significant deviation from the norm, indicative of a potential accident, the system promptly dispatches an alert to nearby emergency services, furnishing them with the precise location of the incident. Central to the accuracy of accident detection is the amalgamation of data streams from both the heartbeat and the car's vibration sensors. Leveraging a UNO microcontroller, these data sets are meticulously analyzed to ascertain the occurrence of a collision. Subsequently, utilizing GPS technology, the system swiftly pinpoints the exact coordinates of the accident site, facilitating efficient emergency response. Moreover, a fingerprint authentication feature has been incorporated to pre-empt any potential inaccuracies arising from passenger substitution. This ensures that the sensor system remains attuned solely to the driver's vital signs, thus enhancing its reliability in critical situations. Our solution's technical implementation harnesses the Arduino platform's versatility, facilitating seamless hardware integration and streamlined programming through the Arduino IDE. By seamlessly amalgamating cutting-edge technology with pragmatic design, our IoT solution endeavours to significantly curtail the mortality rate attributable to delayed ambulance arrivals, thereby underscoring its potential as a lifesaving intervention.
