Abstract

We know about the power system i.e. generation, transmission and utilization. The main part where there are many issues is the transmission of power. The power is transmitted through the transmission line. Nowadays, we can see faults occurring on the transmission lines which unbalance the power system. As the requirement for power has grown, its support for the consumers by the government is exponentially growing day by day. But this also has the adverse effect of losses on transmission lines. The faults may occur due to natural disasters like thundering, lighting strokes, or insulation failure or maybe by the public like mechanical failure or tension to the transmission lines. Thus, more focus is on the analysis of this fault in the power system engineering and after that clearing that fault quickly to regain the power system stability. So it’s a big challenging task of power supply to the consumers without interruption and low losses. The objective of this paper is to study the types of faults occurring on the transmission line and compare the techniques of the detection of faults. Using MATLAB software, we can simulate the faults. In this paper, we have performed the simulation of the transmission line to detect the faults.
