Abstract

The power demand is increasing day by day which results in overloading the distributed grids; also it creates undesirable impacts on the quality of power which results in outages and malfunctioning of devices. Power generation using solar Photovoltaic (PV) could be a good key for increasing power demand. The solar photovoltaic interface to the grid is one of the important applications of solar PV and this development is increasing now a day as government supports such programs by providing incentives. This paper presents the work of solar photovoltaic based grid connected system simulation done in Matlab using a sim power system. Solar photovoltaic modeling is done using a datasheet of solar manufacture and interface to the grid through a DC converter and inverter (VSI).  System results are provided with the transformer and without the transformer system. The synchronous rotating reference control technique is used to control the inverter current and insert that current in the grid.  For synchronization of grid phase lock loop is implemented. Output low pass filter is designed to minimize the harmonic distortion and keep THD within the acceptable perimeters. The entire system design is carried out to feed 1000W PV power generated by solar modules and obtained results are presented.
