Earthquakes are considered one of the most destructive natural disasters, mainly resulting in the loss of lives and property. Due to physical constraints that prevent the construction of buildings and because aesthetic flaws are considered, these anomalies cause damage to buildings during earthquakes. The performance level of a building exposed to earthquakes is evaluated using a performance-based design. A few non-linear static analysis techniques have been developed to examine a building's performance. Pushover analysis is a common technique for determining a building's performance level. Based on the pushover analysis results, deciding whether collapse happens at the member or structure level is possible.
Additionally, the necessity and requirement of pushover analysis are explained. The performance of the building is assessed using the criteria specified in Federal Emergency Management Agency-356 and Applied Technology Council-40. To facilitate the modeling and analysis of seismically irregular buildings, software like ETABS and SAAP2000 are utilized.
