Blockchain technology has emerged as a transformative innovation across multiple domains, including electronic voting systems. Traditional voting mechanisms are often prone to fraud, lack of transparency, and inefficiencies in vote counting, leading to electoral malpractices and corruption. These shortcomings highlight the need for a more secure and reliable voting framework. Blockchain technology, with its decentralized nature, immutability, and cryptographic security, presents a viable solution to address these challenges. This paper explores the implementation of blockchain technology in electronic voting systems, emphasizing its benefits in ensuring transparency, security, and trustworthiness in electoral processes. By leveraging a distributed ledger system, blockchain eliminates the risks associated with centralized control, reducing the chances of data tampering and unauthorized alterations.
Additionally, the immutable nature of blockchain records ensures that votes, once cast, cannot be changed or manipulated, thereby enhancing voter confidence in the electoral process. Various blockchain-based voting models are analyzed, evaluating their effectiveness in terms of security, efficiency, and feasibility for large-scale deployment. However, challenges such as scalability, vote confidentiality, and regulatory concerns remain significant hurdles that need to be addressed for widespread adoption. The study concludes by identifying future research directions that could further refine blockchain-enabled voting systems, such as optimizing consensus mechanisms, improving privacy-preserving techniques, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Overall, blockchain technology enhances the integrity and transparency of elections, fostering greater trust in democratic processes.
