The evolving healthcare environment demands nurses who possess strong clinical competence, critical thinking ability, and effective decision-making skills. Traditional lecture-based teaching methods alone may not adequately prepare nursing students for complex clinical situations. Consequently, nursing education increasingly incorporates innovative pedagogical approaches such as simulation-based learning, competency-based education, blended learning, and virtual reality. This narrative review aims to examine contemporary pedagogical approaches used in nursing education and synthesize evidence from recent literature regarding their educational effectiveness. A narrative review of literature published between 2015 and 2025 was conducted using electronic databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Keywords included nursing education, pedagogy, simulation, virtual reality, blended learning, and gamification. Studies discussing pedagogical strategies and learning outcomes in nursing education were included. Evidence from recent studies suggests that simulation-based learning significantly improves clinical competence and decision-making skills among nursing students. Blended learning and online learning approaches enhance knowledge retention and student satisfaction, while virtual reality technologies provide immersive environments that facilitate experiential learning. Gamification strategies improve student motivation and engagement when integrated appropriately into educational curricula. Innovative pedagogical approaches can enhance nursing education when implemented within well-structured curricula and supported by effective instructional design. Strengthening pedagogical practices will contribute to the development of competent nursing professionals capable of addressing contemporary healthcare challenges.
