A Descriptive Study to Assess Factors Affecting Academic Performances Among Nursing Student Studying in SPGMCON At Bharathinagara

Title: A study to access factors affecting academic performance among nursing students studying in SPGMCON. Objectives: 1. To assess the factors affecting academic performances among nursing students. 2. To find association between factors affecting with their selected demographic data. Method: The study was carefully conducted at SPGMCON, and data was collected for one month. Non probability convenient sampling technique was used on selecting 102 samples who are studying in B.sc nursing students in SPGMCON. Along with Socio demographic proforma and rating scale was used to collect the data from sample. The chi square test was used to find the association between the factors and selected demographic variables. Result: From the findings of the present study, it was concluded that the mean test score is 53.31 and it signifies that the factors affecting academic performance among B.sc Nursing students of Smt. Padma G Madegowda College of Nursing. Among the samples taken majority were belongs to age group 21-22 (37%), around 69% of the samples were females. Among the selected samples, 40 parents had an education in SSLC and above each. The chi square test signifies the association of the factors affecting academic performance with selected demographic variables. The age and Gender of the samples associated with the scores collected to assess the factors affecting academic performances. Conclusion: The factors which greatly affecting the academic related performances include the student's motivation, time management, study habits, and overall health. Nursing students who exhibit strong self-discipline, effective study routines, and good physical and mental health often perform better academically. The quality of teaching, availability of resources, and curriculum design significantly impact academic performance. Supportive faculty, interactive teaching methods, and access to learning tools contribute positively to student success. Family support, peer influence, and the learning environment play crucial roles. A positive and supportive environment at home and in the institution enhances focus and engagement. Stress, anxiety, and self-esteem are critical determinants of performance. High stress levels, particularly in demanding programs like nursing, can negatively affect academic outcomes, while good coping mechanisms and self- confidence boost performance.
