Introduction This critical review evaluates the study titled “A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Knowledge Regarding Obesity and Lifestyle Modification among Adolescents at Selected High Schools, Mysuru.” The study aims to assess the impact of a structured teaching program on obesity and lifestyle modification knowledge among adolescents. While the study provides valuable insights, several methodological and interpretational biases are identified, impacting the validity and generalizability of the findings. Background of the Study Childhood obesity presents a growing concern with enduring and potentially adverse effects on adolescent health. Overweight is characterized by exceeding average weight for height and body structure, typically measured by Body Mass Index (BMI). Children with BMI values between the 85th and 95th percentile are considered at risk of overweight. The associated health conditions of overweight, including various diseases, are preventable through early interventions and lifestyle modifications. This study aims to enhance the knowledge of adolescents aged 12 to 15 through a structured teaching program focused on childhood obesity and lifestyle modification. Objectives -To assess the pre-test level of knowledge on obesity and lifestyle modifications among adolescents. -To evaluate the effectiveness of a structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding obesity and lifestyle modification among adolescents. -To find out the association between the knowledge level of adolescents regarding obesity and lifestyle modifications with their selected demographic variables. Methods The study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test assessment. Sixty adolescents aged 12 to 15 years from selected high schools in Mysuru were purposively sampled. A structured questionnaire assessed knowledge levels before and after the structured teaching program. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, and chi-square tests. Results The study reports a significant improvement in knowledge scores post-intervention (mean pre-test score = 15.4, mean post-test score = 24.2; paired t-test, t = 19.36, p < 0.05). However, demographic characteristics of the sample (e.g., age, gender, education) and potential confounding factors were not adequately controlled for, raising concerns about internal validity. Conclusion In conclusion, the study highlights the potential of structured teaching programs in enhancing knowledge about obesity and lifestyle modification among adolescents. Nonetheless, caution is needed in interpreting the findings due to methodological weaknesses. Addressing these limitations through robust study designs and comprehensive data analysis will strengthen the evidence base for combating adolescent obesity.
