Abstract

Stress is the physical and mental strain brought on by our reaction to external stress. The particular way the body reacts to a stimulus is what interferes with regular operation. The unpleasant sensation of tension and expected annoyance that results from scholastic demands and expectations from significant others is known as academic stress. The study's objective is to evaluate the stress levels and cognitive abilities of undergraduate health science students at a selected college in Mangalore. For this study, a correlational research design was used. The sample comprised of 310 Undergraduate health science student who were studying Unity Academy of Education Mangalore were selected using proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data gathered by administering the demographic proforma, student stress inventory scale, cognitive assessment questionnaire. To determine the relationship between student stress and their cognitive functioning, Karl Pearson's Correlation Coefficient was calculated. The result revealed that most 181 (54.4%) of Undergraduate Health Science student had low stress and majority 122(39.5%) of students had low cognitive functioning. The result also showed that there is a negative correlation between the level of student stress and the level of cognitive functioning among Undergraduate Health Science students.
