Parenting Style and Child Anxiety and Depression in Bangladesh

Abstract

Objectives: The study aimed to examine the relationship between parenting style and child anxiety and depression in Bangladesh. Methods: Using a convenient sampling technique, a descriptive correlational study was conducted among 112 selected children. After data collection, it was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study was conducted from June 2023 to May 2024. Results: It was found that there was a strong negative correlation between parenting style and child anxiety and depression. The study findings demonstrated that children perceive low levels of anxiety and depression. Child anxiety and depression were also considerably connected with age, family income, relationship with parents, bullying by parents, and family history of mental illness. Conclusion: The study findings will be contributed to provide evidence for increasing consciousness among parents, which will help to magnify their permissive parenting style, quality of life, adaptation, and eventually will decrease child anxiety and depression.
