Religiosity and Mental Well-Being among Mentally Ill People in Bangladesh

Abstract

Objectives: The study aimed to examine the relationship between religiosity and the mental well-being of mentally ill people. Methods: A correlational study was conducted among 112 mentally ill people with intact insight who were selected by using a convenience sampling technique. Data was collected through face-to-face interviews. After data collection, it was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: It was found that there was a strong positive significant correlation between religiosity and mental well-being. Religiosity was significantly associated with gender, marital status and duration of illness. Age, gender, marital status, occupation, monthly income, number of family members, duration of illness, religious activities and prayer were significantly associated with mental well-being. Conclusion: The study findings will contribute to generating knowledge about the potentiality of religiosity to improve quality of life and adaptation, reduce burden and stigma, and enhance early recovery by progressing mental well-being.
