Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and predictive analytics are rapidly revolutionizing postoperative care by enabling early detection of complications, optimizing patient monitoring, and personalizing recovery pathways. Leveraging data from electronic health records (EHRs), wearable devices, and clinical notes, AI tools support nurses and clinicians in decision-making, resource allocation, and workflow automation. This review explores the evolution, applications, technologies, benefits, and challenges of AI in postoperative care, with a particular focus on its impact on nursing practice. The article also addresses ethical, legal, and regulatory implications and outlines future directions such as federated learning and AI-integrated virtual care. With appropriate implementation, AI can substantially improve outcomes and satisfaction in surgical recovery.
