A Study to Evaluate the Impact of a Structured Teaching Program on PUC Students' Attitudes and Knowledge About Organ Donation at a Colleges in Mysore

Abstract

Background of the Study: Donating an organ entails surgically removing a tissue or organ from one person (the donor) in order to transplant it into another person (the recipient). The number of people in need of organ transplants and the supply of qualified donors are significantly out of balance. Raising awareness and encouraging a good attitude toward organ donation is crucial to closing this gap and guaranteeing the success of transplant programs. Objectives: This study's main goals were to find out how well PUC students understood and viewed organ donation, how well a structured teaching program (STP) improved their comprehension and perspective, and whether their posttest results were correlated with any particular Socio-demographic factors. Methodology: Participants in a pre-experimental random approach involved to select the samples from college. 60 samples were included in the Study. Tool administered to samples: pretest data was collected. The STP was delivered after and administered subsequently to the PUC students who took part. Both descriptive and inferential statistical approaches were used in the analyzing the data. Results: The average knowledge score rise from 21.67% in the pretest to 73.33% in the posttest, and the attitude score improved from 51.67% to 58.33%, according to post-intervention findings. A statistically significant improvement was shown by the computed "t" values (t=10.89 for attitude and t=17.94 for knowledge) exceeding the crucial value at a 0.05 significance level. However, the chi-square test revealed no significant correlation between posttest knowledge or attitude scores and any of the chosen demographic variables. Conclusion and Interpretation: According to the study's findings, PUC students' knowledge and attitudes regarding organ donation were improved by the structured education programme.
