Abstract

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a critical life-saving technique that ensures continuous blood flow to the heart and brain during cardiac arrest or respiratory failure. While awareness of CPR has grown among non-medical individuals, many still lack the technical proficiency and confidence to apply it effectively in emergencies. This study seeks to assess the existing CPR knowledge of Arts and Science college students and evaluate the impact of a Structured Teaching program (STP) on improving their understanding and practical skills. A quantitative quasi-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design was employed to assess the effectiveness of a Structured Teaching Program (STP) on CPR knowledge and skills among 70 Arts and Science college students selected through convenience sampling. The study aimed to evaluate pre-intervention expertise and skills, measure the impact of the STP, and explore associations between pre-test performance and demographic variables. Data were collected using demographic profiles, a knowledge questionnaire, and a skill rating scale and analyzed with SPSS using descriptive and inferential statistics. Participants were predominantly aged 17-18 years (62.9%), with a majority being female (77.1%). Most had no prior CPR knowledge (71.4%) or training (94.3%). Significant improvements were observed post-intervention, with mean knowledge scores increasing from 9.46 to 16.09 (t=15.651, p<0.0001) and skill scores from 1.20 to 6.36 (t=19.812, p<0.0001). No significant correlations were found between pre-test knowledge or skill levels and demographic variables. The structured teaching program significantly enhanced participants' CPR knowledge and skills, demonstrating the value of such training across diverse demographic groups.
