Most students, institutions and communities in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria have been bedevilled by the monster of Substance Use Disorders (SUD). Could this be true of Mein Grammar School Kiagbodo? This is the main objective that this study seeks to find out. The study was guided by the self-derogatory and the life course theories. The target population was the entire Senior Secondary 3 student body (155). This also constituted the sample size of the study. A cross-sectional design study was adopted for the research. The instrument for data collection was designed by the researchers, and the data were analysed mainly by descriptive statistics of mean, standard deviation, percentages, and frequency tables. The result shows that 71.4% of respondents are aware of the availability of substances of abuse within the Kiagbodo community. Alcohol (mean = 4.0, SD = 1.25) is the most commonly abused substance by the respondents, while those with a mean = 4.0, SD = 0.88 are finding it difficult to quit the substance that they have been abusing. It was recommended that the institution should implement evidence-based strategies for the prevention and reduction of SUD. Parents should also be involved in school-based prevention programmes.
