Abstract

In this research, we adopted a novel approach to investigate leadership within a Sri Lankan childcare organization. My unique position as an educator for adolescent boys within a prominent non-governmental organization (NGO) grants them firsthand experience with the diverse leadership styles and approaches employed in this setting. By using the scientific autoethnographic technique, the review incorporates individual encounters into an exhaustive investigation of the initiative. Five engaging narratives serve as the foundation for connecting my experiences with established leadership theories, including trait theory, situational theory, transformational leadership, inspirational leadership, autocratic leadership, and democratic leadership. Through a critical examination of these leadership styles and their subsequent impact on the organization and its members, the study offers an insightful analysis of leadership dynamics within this specific context. This work presents a valuable contribution to the existing body of leadership studies, particularly within the domain of childcare organizations. By fostering a rich and nuanced understanding of leadership, the research provides valuable insights into how effective leadership practices can positively influence the lives of parentless, disadvantaged, and vulnerable children. The exploration of leadership styles through the lens of personal experience within an NGO setting offers a fresh perspective and contributes to the ongoing dialogue on leadership within the childcare field.
