This paper examines how leadership strategies can address Africa’s governance and socio political challenges stifling sustainable development. It draws on a multi theory framework combining strategic management, institutional, and stakeholder theory. Analyzing qualitative data from seven global governance case studies, 40 interviews, and five focus groups across eleven countries, key themes emerged sustainability of social impact initiatives, community engagement and local relevance, policy, and governance barriers, digital transformation and youth empowerment, and holistic approaches to development. These findings reveal that culturally attuned, adaptive leadership models enhance the effectiveness of social impact initiatives, aligning local priorities with global frameworks like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. However, governance barriers and resource limitations persist, challenging long term sustainability. The study contributes to scholarly understanding by proposing an alternative leadership framework tailored to the continent’s unique developmental context, emphasising the importance of innovative governance strategies for sustainable development in Africa.
