Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks pose a significant threat to the stability and availability of online services, often overwhelming target networks with malicious traffic. Traditional centralized solutions for mitigating these attacks can become bottlenecks and single points of failure. This paper proposes a novel approach utilizing blockchain technology to enable decentralized traffic scrubbing for DDoS mitigation. By leveraging a distributed network of scrubbing nodes, this system filters malicious traffic before it reaches the target, ensuring continuous service availability. The blockchain framework provides a secure and transparent method for coordinating these nodes, offering immutable records of traffic handling and enhancing trust in the system. This decentralized approach not only distributes the load more effectively but also increases the resilience and robustness of the defence mechanism. The proposed solution is evaluated for its effectiveness in mitigating various types of DDoS attacks, its scalability, and the potential challenges associated with blockchain integration.
