In such projects, choosing the right prefabrication
technique under unpredictable project conditions becomes critical to producing outcomes that
support accomplishing green building targets, such as decreased material consumption and
enhanced energy efficiency. Therefore, decisions on prefabrication should be carefully coordinated
with several strategies throughout the project's team selection, design, procurement,
manufacturing, and construction phases. The most promising prefabrication options and selecting
the best tactics across multiple construction systems are important for better-achieving project
objectives for initial cost, schedule, quality, and sustainability. The limited decision-making tools
for prefabrication that are now available are often focused on building options. A decision-making
framework is suggested, building on the already-existing idea selection optimization techniques.
Project teams can evaluate opportunities present in the entire delivery process of a building
system, compare various prefabrication options, and make effective prefabrication decisions when
they are aware of the synergies and tensions among prefabrication strategies, building processes,
and building performance early in the design phase. Prefabricated structures are hardly a novel
idea, but they might be our greatest chance at creating truly sustainable design in the future.
2024-01-10T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Journal of Recent Activities in Architectural Sciences
