Generative AI has garnered tremendous attention in research because of its ability to create an array of content like text, code, images, audio, and videos from existing data. This paper discusses the evolution of Generative AI development and its various applications in different fields. The evolution of generative models, such as GANs and LLMs like OpenAI's GPT series, Google's LaMDA, and Bard or Meta's OPT, is discussed, along with their use in marketing, educational and research pursuits, highlighting the potentiality of Generative AI to advance productivity and creativity. It also touches on problems such as academic integrity within education and the conscientious and ethical application of GAI, encompassing questions about intellectual property rights and output bias. The paper examines the artifice of GAI in the completion of complex prompts. It considers research in which GAI's performance on academic actions was discussed at various difficulty levels. Other issues about GAI's authenticity are raised, including examples in which the machines have yielded erroneous or fabricated data.
