Incorporating blockchain technology in smart grids offers promising solutions to security challenges posed by the complexity of these systems. Traditional and advanced smart grid designs introduce significant risks related to data integrity, privacy, and cyber-attacks, often inadequately protected by technologies like firewalls and intrusion detection systems. This paper presents blockchain as a robust security solution for smart grids. Blockchain's decentralized ledger enhances data integrity, authentication, and privacy. The research analyzes smart grid vulnerabilities and evaluates blockchain's potential to mitigate these risks. A blockchain-based architecture is proposed to enhance security, emphasizing the benefits and challenges of integration. Results indicate that while blockchain offers advantages in transparency and tamper-resistance, scalability issues and regulatory policies remain key obstacles. This paper contributes to the evolving discourse on smart grid security by analyzing blockchain's role in securing energy systems and proposing a framework for effective integration.
