Abstract

In today's complex and dynamic world, decision-makers often face situations characterized by ambiguity, uncertainty, and imprecision in data. Traditional decision-making models need help to address these challenges effectively. Fuzzy decision-making and decision support systems (FDSS) have emerged as valuable tools for coping with such uncertainties. This research paper explores fuzzy decision-making and FDSS, including their principles, methodologies, applications, and benefits. This paper demonstrates how these approaches can enhance decision-making processes in various domains through a review of relevant literature and case studies. Fuzzy logic offers a flexible framework for representing and processing imprecise and uncertain information, enabling decision-makers to capture the vagueness inherent in real-world problems. By allowing for the representation of linguistic variables and incorporating expert knowledge, fuzzy logic facilitates more human-like reasoning, which is particularly valuable in domains where precise quantitative data may be lacking or difficult to obtain.

Moreover, integrating fuzzy logic within decision support systems enhances their capabilities to assist decision-makers in evaluating alternative courses of action under uncertainty. Fuzzy DSS provide functionalities such as fuzzy inference systems, fuzzy clustering, and fuzzy rule-based systems, enabling the modelling of complex decision scenarios and generating actionable insights.
