This paper proposes a theoretical framework for applying sustainability principles in the construction sector. The framework is rooted in sustainable economic, social, and environmental factors. It incorporates strategies like resource conservation, building design adherence to Building Bylaws, and optimization. Each concept is elucidated after an extensive literature review, with examples of initiatives by the Indian government to illustrate the methodologies employed during construction projects. The advent of new technology has revolutionized the approach of construction experts towards information assessment in projects. This shift is attributed to the enhanced capability of technology in gathering and analyzing project data, enabling professionals to make more informed decisions that improve efficiency and effectiveness, consequently boosting the industry's overall performance. The prescribed procedures for engaging with building assessment agencies to obtain certification based on performance criteria are delineated. The primary objective of this article is to scrutinize various parameters of sustainable construction and the governmental efforts to promote Green Building practices in Tier-II cities. Additionally, the paper critically evaluates the revisions made to building bylaws since their enactment in 2004 at both central and state levels. These green building standards are anticipated to garner significant political backing, fostering the development of environmentally conscious urban spaces.
