Abstract

The tea industry is one of the oldest and most influential sectors in the global agricultural economy, deeply intertwined with cultural, social, and economic aspects worldwide. The global tea market has witnessed notable shifts in recent years, driven by evolving consumer preferences, health consciousness, and sustainability concerns. Traditional tea-producing regions like China, India, and Sri Lanka continue to dominate production. Yet, emerging players such as Kenya, Vietnam, and Indonesia are progressively asserting their presence, diversifying the market landscape. Consumer preferences are transforming, with increasing demand for special teas, including herbal, green, and organic variants.

Moreover, the rise of e-commerce platforms and digital marketing has facilitated broader access to niche tea products, fostering a more diverse and competitive market environment. Climate variability threatens tea cultivation, adversely affecting yield, quality, and geographic suitability. Labour shortages and wage disparities pose social sustainability concerns, prompting initiatives for fair trade and ethical sourcing. From agriculture techniques to eco-friendly packaging solutions, stakeholders actively explore strategies to enhance productivity, reduce environmental footprint, and ensure social equity. Looking ahead, the tea industry presents abundant opportunities for growth and innovation. Leveraging technological advancements, embracing sustainable practices, and catering to evolving consumer preferences are pivotal for fostering a resilient and thriving tea sector in the 21st century. This study offers insights into the transformative journey of the tea industry, highlighting key trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping its future trajectory.
