This paper presents a complete review of the wear-resistance assets of cast iron materials. Wear resistance is a critical feature in influencing the longevity and performance of cast iron components in numerous manufacturing applications. Despite the extensive use of cast iron in engineering applications, there is a lack of consensus on the factors influencing wear resistance and the most operative approaches for improving it. This analysis examines the various types of wear mechanisms encountered in cast iron materials, including abrasive, adhesive, and erosive wear, and discusses the factors influencing wear resistance such as microstructure, alloying elements, heat treatment, and surface modifications. Additionally, this paper provides a critical analysis of existing research methodologies and testing techniques used to evaluate wear resistance in cast iron materials. Furthermore, it highlights recent advancements in the field and identifies potential avenues for future research to enhance the wear resistance of cast iron materials, thereby contributing to the development of more durable and efficient engineering components.
