Abstract

This article examines the dynamics of greening trade and investment in India, focusing on achieving environmental protection without resorting to protectionist measures. As a rapidly growing economy, India faces the dual challenge of fostering economic development while addressing environmental sustainability. The paper explores how trade and investment policies can be aligned with global environmental commitments, such as the Paris Agreement, without compromising economic growth or creating barriers to free trade. Key areas of focus include the promotion of green technologies, sustainable industrial practices, and renewable energy investments. The article highlights India's efforts to integrate environmental considerations into trade agreements and investment frameworks, fostering the adoption of eco-friendly practices across industries. It also discusses the significance of removing trade barriers for green goods and services; enabling India to become a global leader in sustainable production.
Additionally, the paper addresses concerns about the potential misuse of environmental regulations as non-tariff barriers, advocating for a balanced approach that promotes both environmental protection and economic competitiveness. Policymakers are encouraged to adopt strategies such as incentivizing green innovations, strengthening environmental standards, and fostering international cooperation on sustainability goals. By leveraging sustainable trade and investment policies, India can achieve inclusive growth while contributing to global efforts in combating climate change. This study provides actionable insights to balance environmental and economic priorities, ensuring a sustainable and competitive future for the Indian economy.
