The Way to Control and Optimize a Brushless DC Motor at an Entered Pace

The speed of the BLDC motor can be controlled based on the principle of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). This is achieved by maintaining the motor in a closed-loop feedback system, where the RPM is monitored and sent to the microcontroller through an Infrared (IR) reflection setup attached to the motor shaft. An LCD is interfaced with the microcontroller to display the motor’s operating speed. The desired speed, expressed as a percentage of the full speed, is input through a keypad. The microcontroller then adjusts the speed by delivering the appropriate pulse width, automatically regulating the DC power supplied to the motor to achieve the required speed. This operation is carried out using an opto-isolator and a MOSFET to drive the BLDC motor, while IR sensing is used to provide the speed feedback to the microcontroller.
